Eager for Summer

By: Carly Weinstock, Director of Camp Maas

Let’s get ready for Summer 2022!

Last week, we posted dates and fees for the Camp Maas summer of 2022 and we hope you plan to join us!

Our year-round staff members have been busy planning for next summer since everyone left camp in August. I am excited to announce our team, who are all familiar faces, just in slightly different roles.

Becca Fishman is our new Associate Director who is overseeing all our staffing for the summer. She is already busy interviewing international staff and looks forward to our staff application going live on November 1 for our American staff.

Matt Russell is our Director of TARC, but also working as the programming head for Camp Maas. He is busy planning the camping trips, making sure our program areas are in great condition, searching for new ideas, and supporting Becca in making sure we hire the best program staff for the summer – just to name a few things!

Lindsey Brenz is our Family and Communication Coordinator with new responsibilities as the alumni relations point person for our agency. She is always the friendly voice behind a call or email to a new or returning parent. She has been scheduling many informational meetings for us, where we will come talk about camp to your campers. If you are interested in hosting and have 3 or more families who will attend, please reach out to Lindsey to schedule.

Helayne Shaw is our Director of Family Camp and New Camper Liaison. Once registration begins, she will set up a meeting with every new camper prior to camp to help them prepare for their first summer. Right now, Helayne is attending all our informational meetings to tell everyone about our exciting plans for the summer.

Jen Feinberg is returning as our Health Director and will be working part-time throughout the year to guide us and prepare us to have another healthy safe summer. She is also the staff member leading our Medical Committee who will continue to guide us in deciding COVID-19 protocols.

Danielle Tagai is also returning as our Director of Mental Health and Special Needs at Camp Maas. She will be working part-time throughout the year reaching out and meeting with campers who need extra support preparing for camp. She will also be overseeing our Avodah and Yachad programs during the year.

I am excited to be going into my second summer as Camp Director with this amazing team. It truly takes everyone to be able to run a successful summer. As challenging as 2021 was, we learned so much and we are looking forward to putting new programs and policies in place from our experiences.

This summer, we are offering 2 mini sessions, similar to last year, at the beginning of each full session. A big difference is Session 1 Mini is eligible for campers entering 2nd – 6th grades. Session 2 Mini will be available for campers entering 2nd – 4th grades. We learned that it is a better experience for the older mini session campers to be able to have a full bunk of mini campers, not having 24-day campers in the cabin with them. By only having Session 1 Mini as the option for 5th and 6th grades, we hope we will have 10-12 kids registered to complete a bunk.

Campers going into 8th grade will have two options to choose from for their summer experience (or you can do both with super season) – Robinson Pioneer Village and Grosberg Ruach Village. These villages are part of senior side, they are both co-ed experiences, and begin their days with breakfast in the village (sleep-in included!) Robinson Pioneer is created for more adventurous campers who enjoy the outdoors, this program leaves camp for two camping trips – one is a week spent on a canoe and hiking trip and another for a 2-night ziplining adventure. When this village is not on a camping trip, they enjoy Camp Maas activities and live in the rustic village in the woods. Grosberg Ruach Village offers unique and creative programming, utilizing all the facilities that Camp Maas has to offer. These campers enjoy a multi-day overnight camping trip near Traverse City and North Manitou Island along the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

We are here if you have any questions or would like to set up a meeting.

To those who joined us in 2021, we can’t wait for you to come back!

To new families, we are glad you are here and look forward to being with you at camp soon.
