Our Mission

Tamarack Camps, established by the Fresh Air Society, builds a vibrant community by providing enriching Jewish camping experiences for children and families, respectful of financial ability.

Scholarship

Tamarack Camps offers scholarships to qualifying Jewish families who live in Michigan.  Assistance is available for Camp Maas, Outpost Camps, and the Teen Travel Trips.  Specific details regarding scholarship forms and the process will be provided once your camper is registered for camp and scholarship has been requested.

The Scholarship Process

Registration:  Register for Tamarack Camps summer programs and indicate your interest in applying for a scholarship.  When you request a scholarship, a $100 deposit per camper (or $500 per camper if applying for a Western or Alaska Trip) is required with each application.

Once your camper’s application is submitted, you will receive an email with the link to “FAST” – the scholarship application.  You will need to complete the FAST application as well as download additional forms which provide financial information including your most recent tax return and current pay stubs.

Should you have any technical questions about submitting your application or scholarship forms, please contact our main office at 248-647-1100.

Scholarships Awards and Payment Schedule:  Notification of financial scholarship awards will be provided via email.  Award recipients have to send in an additional $100 deposit per camper to secure their placement.  Families will also need to designate whether they will pay their balance in full by April 1 or set up a monthly payment plan.

For families on the monthly payment plan, the final balance is due one week prior to the start of the session of camp your child(ren) is/are attending.  All accounts must be in balance in order for campers to be eligible to attend camp.

Additional Financial Options

  • PJ Goes to Camp offers limited grants for a first-time overnight Jewish camp experience (10 day mini session not included).
    • 2016 grants are already allocated but plan for 2017
  • Hebrew Free Loan offers interest free loans for overnight camp.

Out of State Families

For families who need a scholarship, we recommend you contact PJ Goes to Camp for information.

Families residing in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee or Texas may contact The Jewish Children’s Regional Service.  We also suggest families contact their local synagogue and/or Jewish Federation to inquire about scholarship opportunities for Jewish summer camp.
