SK2T: Celebrating 125 Summers Because of You

Tamarack Camps staff

This year, our SK2T event takes on special meaning as we celebrate “125 Summers Because of You.”

The Tamarack Camps story begins in 1902, when two remarkable women, Blanche Hart and Ida Kopple, recognized a need in Detroit’s growing Jewish community. With a group of dedicated volunteers, they organized outings for immigrant women and children, giving them a chance to experience fresh air and open space. These simple day trips eventually grew into the Fresh Air Society — and laid the foundation for a mission that continues today.

At Tamarack Camps, that mission lives on because of supporters like you. SK2T is our opportunity to honor the families, alumni and friends who have carried this vision forward. Your support ensures that generations of campers can grow, connect and discover who they are in a safe, welcoming and vibrant Jewish community.

Because of you, Tamarack has welcomed five generations of campers who have formed lifelong friendships, developed confidence and leadership skills, deepened their spiritual identities, and embraced resilience — all while enjoying the joy and freedom of summer camp.

Jewish life remains at the heart of every experience. Every summer, campers celebrate Shabbat together, build meaningful relationships with Israeli staff and fellow campers, and grow in an environment that is safe, inclusive and inspiring.

As we gather for SK2T, we celebrate our Community Leader awardees Harriet and Gregg Orley, this inspirational milestone and you — the supporters who make every summer possible. Together, we honor the legacy of those who came before us and strengthen Tamarack’s community for generations to come.
