Tidbits #14 — Priority Applications, Camper Readiness

Rachel Pitt, Administrative Coordinator

Hello Tamarack Families,

Have you wondered why we do Priority Applications in the fall? If you have younger campers, it may not feel urgent to apply for camp when registration opens. However, as your camper gets older, some programs and trips have space limitations. Travel trips (Western and Alaska), Outpost camps (Kennedy and Agree) and Robinson Pioneer Village all have space limitations and can go to a waitlist. There are circumstances when younger villages go to a waitlist too, but it’s less common. When you apply during the first two weeks – Priority Applicaitons – if a program goes to a waitlist, campers are selected based on how many years they have been a camper. Also, that early bird discount is pretty nice!

Is your child ready for camp? Does your child feel comfortable with shampooing (and rinsing!) their hair by themselves? This is a great skill that our counselors appreciate at shower time. Extra stars for campers who can brush and style (braids, ponytails) their hair themselves. If you’re going someplace warm for mid-winter break or spring break, you can have your camper practice applying their own sunscreen.

For those of you traveling for mid-winter break, be safe!

Warmly,
Rachel
