You Can Always Come Home

Gabe is truly a product of the Detroit Jewish community. From his early Jewish education at Temple Kol Ami and Tamarack Camps, he owes much of who he is today to the institutions and individuals who helped forge his personal and professional journey. His Jewish identity was further enhanced through Shabbat dinners at MSU Hillel, living as a Moishe House resident, working with NextGen Detroit to establish the Pitch for Detroit fundraiser — and even meeting his wife, Ilene, at the Detroit mifgash!

As a lay leader and professional, he has compiled over 10 years of experience in non-profit organizations. At Tamarack Camps, he is considered a “lifer” — growing up on the playgrounds (8 summers!), and, years later, working professionally as a Development Associate and Alumni Relations Director (2011-17). In both capacities, Gabe established himself as a relationship builder, strong solicitor, and successful steward of our supporters. As a valued leader, he earned positive recognition for increasing our alumni engagement by 260%, establishing our Young Adult Advisory Board, and serving as a staff liaison to four different committees.

Before rejoining the Tamarack team, Gabe was the Fund Development Director at the Midnight Golf Program, a youth development program focused on empowering young people throughout Southeast Michigan to successfully transition from high school to college — and beyond. For over 5 years, as the first-ever fundraising professional in the organization, Gabe oversaw all aspects of individual and corporate giving, grant management, and a new capital campaign. He was responsible for significantly growing its annual operating budget, which has enabled them to provide expanded student services during this crucial time in their lives.

Gabe attended Michigan State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Additionally, he received a Masters of Community Development at the University of Detroit Mercy — and, in 2022, completed a certificate in Major Gifts at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.

As a lay leader, Gabe has participated on the boards of the Jewish Historic Society of Michigan and MSU Hillel. Most recently, at Tamarack Camps, he has served as the co-chair of our Advancement Committee, where, amongst many responsibilities, he has supported the preparations for our upcoming comprehensive campaign.

Gabe lives in Berkley with his wife and their dog, Poncho. Gabe and Ilene are co-owners of the Green Bay Packers, enjoy visiting friends and family all over the world, completing ambitious Lego projects, and pretty much anything they can do together!
