A Super Sunday Indeed

By: Lee Trepeck

There was a renewed buzz in the building – volunteers gathered, people reunited, and phones rang. It was Super Sunday at Federation, April 10, 2022, and it felt so good to be home at the central address for Jewish life in Metropolitan Detroit.

During this marquee event, critical dollars are raised to support those in need – and, throughout those hours, there was an inspirational display of partnership by members of Federation, lay leaders around our area, and engaged representatives of many agencies in our community. I felt privileged to wear our Tamarack Camps jersey, and, along with so many others, add my voice to this important cause.

This has been a year when the importance of the Jewish Federation – and the collective power of our entire community – has never been more evident. Together, we raised the funds necessary to provide rescue and relief to the 200,000 Ukrainian Jews whose lives were upended by the invasion, as well as continuing to support thousands of vulnerable individuals in our own community who were affected by the global pandemic. Thanks to the strength of the Federation Annual Campaign, our local and international agencies were there to make a difference. With the steadfast support of JFMD, Tamarack Camps is proud to be part of this narrative.

Even with great success, hurdles remain as we confront challenges: tumult around the world, the instability of our economy, and ongoing concerns about this pandemic, among others. Yet, as a connected group, we continue to work toward a collective goal: no one is alone; no one should search too far for an outstretched hand.

And that hopeful spirit lives way beyond the date of Super Sunday – so, as the calendar turns, our resolve moves forward.
