We are just one week away from the start of Summer 2023 Staff Training! Supervisors arrive on June 1 and will continue to settle in Ortonville through June 12. We believe that we have the best camp staff in the world, and our robust training is second to none. In total, we will “Welcome Home!” over 360 staff members from all across the globe, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Israel, Spain, England, South Africa, Australia, and South America.
During this action-packed two weeks of training, staff will become certified in the following areas: lifeguarding, wilderness, first aid, and “safe talk” (suicide prevention). These skills will be taught by trainers from across the country.
Other training topics include eating challenges, medical training, LGBTQ+ understanding and empathy, mental health awareness, camp policies, and special needs education. The staff will also spend time learning about their campers, planning amazing programs, and everything else needed to ensure camp is ready for when our first campers depart on June 18 (Alaska 1).
